SUMMER CAMP

Old Florida Museum is excited to announce new week-long day camp programs for summer 2010. Children will have the opportunity to spend a week at our museum learning all about a variety of time periods from St. Augustine and Florida’s past. In addition to being educational, these camps are full of fun activities such as games, arts and crafts, adventurous field trips, stories, and more! There is absolutely something for everyone, so even if history isn’t your child’s favorite subject, they are guaranteed to have a wonderful time.

Choose from 2 unique week-long programs.  Each session will be held twice for different age groups.  Camp will run 9:00 - 3:00, Monday through Friday.

Native Florida WeekStep back 1,000 years into the past and more during this exciting week of native peoples, nature, and archaeology.

·        Experience the lives and pastimes of the Timucua Indian tribe as you learn how to make arrowheads, dig out a canoe, and play primitive games.

·        The study of Archaeology and artifacts is a major way that we are able to learn about the past. Campers will learn all about this process while digging for and cataloging actual artifacts themselves.

·        Ever wonder what Florida was like BEFORE any people lived here? Adventurous field trips to various native ecosystems will illustrate your discovery of the many plants and animals that call Florida home.

Many crafts, games, demonstrations, and opportunities to learn are included in this 5 day camp.  Native Florida Week will be held June 21st through 25th for ages 6 - 9, and July 12th through 16th for ages 10 – 13.

Early Settlers and Communities Week:  Campers enrolling in this week will learn about how some of our earliest settlers and communities tamed the wild Florida landscape and learned how to survive and strive here.

·        Become a Spanish conquistador and discover a new land! Protect your forts, prepare your food, and practice early building methods.

·        Explore numerous historical sites around town!

·        Live the life of a Cracker child! Attend class in 1835, participate in Pioneer related chores and games, and learn all about early Florida cow culture.

Many crafts, games,  demonstrations, and opportunities to learn are included in this 5 day camp. Early Settlers and Communities Week will be held July 19th through 23rd for children ages 6 – 9, and July 26th through the 30thfor ages 10 – 13.

Parents may choose to enroll their children in one or both weeks of the Old Florida Museum Summer Camp.  Selecting both weeks will fully immerse the camper in Florida’s history and create a truly comprehensive knowledge of our past, using hands on, interactive techniques, that the Old Florida Museum is known for. They will start at the very beginning and be brought all the way back up to the present. Not to mention, twice the fun!

Each week of camp is $165.00 per camper.  If the camper attends both weeks, then the cost is $300.00 total for the two weeks. A non-refundable deposit of $50 per camper, per week is due at the time of registration, with the balance due by June 1 2010.  All registration forms must be received by June 1 2010.  Campers must bring a bagged lunch and drink for each day of camp except for Day 3 of each week.
